Several years ago we developed a Remote underwater Monitoring System (RMS) for investigating lobster predation (Watson et al., 1998). It is very similar to the LTV system we use to observe lobster traps (Lobster TV). We have waterproof, low-light, B&W video cameras mounted underwater and connected via waterproof conducting cables to a buoy on the surface. The buoys contain all the necessary batteries and electronics to run the system and continuously transmit live video to a receiver in the UNH CML; where it is recorded using a time-lapse video recorder. An array of far-red LEDs makes it possible to continuously monitor the activity of animals within view of the camera for 24-48 hours.
